 Institute of  Psychology and  Education.

bullet

 Educational departments.

Section One

The Institute of Psychology  and  Education  was established in 1960.  It was first a teaching department located at the Faculty of Literature and Human Sciences.  Two years later, this department was expanded.  It then became the Institute of Research and Studies in Psychology and Educational Sciences.

During 1968, the university council adopted a new charter for the institute.  Even though it was still a department of the Faculty of Literature and Human Sciences, the institute was renamed the Institute of Psychology.  The institute’s main objective was to promote basic and applied research in the field of psychology.  It also wanted to support any post-graduate research documents by having them published and/or used as part of their academic curriculum.

In 1992, the department of psychology together with Institute of Psychology merged into the Faculty  of Education under a unified new name, Faculty of psychology and Education.

The dean of the faculty now located in the faculty of psychology and education run by an administrator appoints it under the same system.

The Institute also administers tests for recruiting staff for governmental and non-governmental organizations.

Section Two

During the years  1965 to 1968, the university’s departments in social, behavioural, and educational sciences were reorganized.  After this re-organization, the new Faculty of Educational Science and the Teaching Department of Psychology were created.  The latter was a part of the College of Literature and Human Sciences.

The Faculty of Education was founded in 1965.  It had both undergraduate and graduate academic programs.  During this time, the Department of Library  Science  was established.

Its purpose was  to help serve the needs of the developing academic community, to improve public libraries, and develop research in educational problems.

A doctoral program in the “History and Philosophy of Education” was established in 1974.  It was developed to meet the demand for teachers of higher education and to provide colleges for their training.  A certificate program in teaching was also established in 1978.  It permitted students with other majors, who were interested in the field of teaching and  were willing  to learn teaching methods and techniques.

After the Islamic Revolution in 1979, and during the Cultural Revolution, the goals and programmes of the faculty were reviewed.  They were slightly modified to accommodate the special needs of the educational system.

The special center for counseling and clinical services has already been established.
