The Faculty of Law and Political Science at the University of Tehran is one of the oldest among the modern institutions of higher education in the Islamic Republic of Iran. The faculty originally began within the two schools of law and politics. These schools worked together organizing educational programs and activities long before the establishment of the university. The School of Politics was founded by Mr. Hassan Pirnia (Moshir-a-Douleh) . It officially opened on December 6, 1899. The school was associated with the Foreign Ministry during its early years. However, in 1926, it was separated from that ministry and became affiliated with the Ministry of Culture.
The School of Law was first an independent department of the Ministry of Justice. Initially, the School of Law had two branches: Law and Administrative Sciences. Sometime later, a third branch was added: Economics. The School of Law was disassociated from the Ministry of Justice and became closely connected with the Ministry of Culture in 1926.
A year later, the two schools were combined by a new constitution. This constitution formed the single School of Law and Political Science. In 1934, with the establishment of the university, this school was transformed into an integrated faculty: The Faculty of Law and Political Science. This faculty developed academic programs in legal, political, economic, administrative, and business sciences. |
