Iranian Research Center for Ticks and Tick-borne Diseases
Iranian Research Center for Ticks and Tick-borne Diseases (RCTTD) was established in 2004 at the University of Tehran in cooperation with 7 other Universities, Research Institute of Razi and 2 private livestock breeding companies. RCTTD is composed of 6 groups, working on the different ticks and tick-borne associated scientific fields including Taxonomy, Protozoa, Bacteria, Viruses, Molecular Biology and Immunology, Epidemiology.
Major Projects
1.Distribution of tick-fauna in Iran
2.Determination of Rhipicephalus spp. as vectors for Babesia ovis
3.Single and double immunostaining of babesia and theileria infected cells
4.Research on simultaneous differentiation between Theileria spp. and Babesia spp. on stained blood smear using PCR
5.Determination of ITS-2 in Dermacentor spp. and Hyalomma spp.
6.Determination and characterization of bovine and ovine Anaplasm spp. in Iran
7.Evaluation of acaracide agents against ticks
8. Evaluation of bio-agents against ticks
International Activities
RCTTD has organized 2 major international symposiums:
1. Symposium on Ticks and Tick-borne Diseases, 2003
2. "Transboundary Diseases" and Workshop for FMD, 2008 Furthermore, RCTTD is involved in two international EU-projects
1.“Evaluation and improvement of integrated livestock disease control measures through distribution of molecular diagnostic tools, evaluation of disease situation, training and capacity building in Asia”
2.“Characterization of Asian ticks organized by the Asian component of the integrated consortium on ticks and tick-borne diseases (ICTTD-3)” Major papers produced by faculty members of the Center have been published in prestigious journals.
