Objectives and Present Status
The Faculty aims to promote the study of various countries and regions as an academic discipline in Iran at the theoretical, strategic, and applied levels. Thus, bringing about expertise, understanding, and cooperation at institutional and individual levels is a primary mission and focus of the Faculty. The Faculty offers 2-year MA programs in British Studies, French Studies, German Studies, Indian Studies, North American Studies, Russian Studies and Spanish Studies. The Faculty intends to offer other programs on other countries in the near future. The Ministry of Science, Research and Technology has approved the introduction of 13 more programs. Attempts will be made to promote an interdisciplinary approach to joint studies such as US-Chinese, Japanese-Korean and US-Indian studies which will provide the grounds for an understanding of network relations in the fields of culture, economy and politics as well as common opportunities and threats. Furthermore, the Faculty is working towards offering a new program called World Studies. The main core of this program will be studying the major capacities and threats in the world in the fields of environment, security, food, energy, human and natural resources, housing, welfare and trade. This program will help researchers and scholars depict a monolithic, integrated picture for understanding the modern world and new trends in the world as an interdependent, interconnected totality. The teaching staff of each department are well-versed in the language of the department they teach. The medium of instruction for every program is the language of the country being studied. The non-teaching staff of the Faculty are acquainted with the demands of the students, and hence render invaluable services to students and teaching staff.
