The Faculty of Law and Political Science at the University of Tehran is one of the oldest modern institutions of higher education in Iran, routed in the College of Politics which was established in 1899 by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The Faculty has evolved as the most prestigious law faculty in Iran and has trained most of the Country’s prominent lawyers, judges, diplomats and civil servants, many of whom have been very influential figures in the political and legal life of the Country. The Faculty’s alumni include high-profile legal scholars who have engineered the legal developments of modern Iran.
Over the years, the Faculty has developed academic programs in Criminal Law and Criminology; Private and Islamic Law; Public Law; Political Science; Public International Law; and International Relations. Recently, Regional Studies, Public Policy and Human Rights have been added to the programs available at the Faculty. The Faculty accepts students at LLB, LLM and PhD levels. 15 professor, 21 associate professors, 40 assistant professors and 6 instructors constitute the academic staff of the Faculty.
The Faculty has consistently recruited the most talented students at both the undergraduate and graduate levels into its various programs and has prepared them for a dynamic and competitive job market. In terms of research, the Faculty has been the front runner in Iran in production of high quality legal books, legal journals and papers for national and international use.
The Faculty also manages numerous legal and political research institutes, many of which are the leading research institutes of the Country in their field of specialty such as the Institute of Comparative Law, Institute of Crime and Criminology and the Institute of Public Law.
